I never know where a piece will take me.

Sitting before a blank page, a rainbow of pastels to my right, I choose a subject. A person like my girlfriend, the idea of a world at peace, or my present mood. Something specific or general. That is ultimately where the thinking stops.

I've always been intrigued by the idea of "getting out of our heads," of being able to reach higher and further by "letting go," and ultimately learning to listen to my heart - getting into the flow. That's what I try to do with these pieces. I try to choose a subject and then let go. I try to trust and develop my intuition. To draw a big red line right through the middle of the page even if part of me is screaming inside "but you'll ruin it!" Eventually learning that spontaneity and trust will get me there.

I hope you feel that trust and spontaneity in these works, and I hope to learn to bring more of it to my art and to my life.
